V8 models are equipped with a water-cooled alternator. Allow the engine to cool before removing the alternator, as coolant will escape from the alternator water jacket. Disconnect the negative battery cable, ensuring to read the battery disconnection cautions beforehand. Remove the radiator cooling fan and fan shroud, then drain the engine cooling system. Remove the accessory belt and disconnect the battery lead (terminal 30 or B+) along with the two-pin harness connector from the front of the alternator. Next, remove the accessory belt idler pulley and the bolts securing the alternator to the water jacket, pulling the alternator forward to remove it. If necessary, raise the car and remove the engine compartment splash shield to access the lower alternator mounting bolts, and consider removing the upper coolant hose to assist with the alternator removal. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to replace the alternator rubber sealing O-ring and fill and bleed the cooling system appropriately.
