Each Camshaft Position Sensor reads an impulse wheel mounted at the end of the camshaft, providing signals to the ECM for cylinder recognition, spark timing, sequential fuel injection, and VANOS control. This sensor is also known as the cylinder identification sensor. For a 6-cylinder engine, the intake Camshaft Position Sensor is located underneath the crankcase breather hose on the left side of the cylinder head, while the exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor is positioned at the right front of the cylinder head. In the V8 M62 TU engine, intake Camshaft Position Sensors are found on each upper timing chain cover.
