The intake Camshaft Position Sensor on a 6-cylinder engine is located on the left side of the cylinder head near the front. Ensure the ignition is off before beginning the process. Start by removing the upper engine covers and the air filter housing along with the ducts. While working on the left side of the cylinder head, detach the engine vent hose from the cylinder head cover by pinching the spring clips, then disconnect the VANOS solenoid electrical connector and unscrew the VANOS solenoid. If needed, unfasten the oil supply line on the VANOS adjustment unit, being prepared to catch any dripping oil. Next, remove the Camshaft Position Sensor mounting bolt and take out the sensor from the cylinder head. Reach under the intake manifold to disconnect the Camshaft Position Sensor harness, and prior to removal, attach a stiff piece of wire to the connector to assist in routing the harness during reinstallation. The installation process is the reverse of removal, ensuring to replace the Camshaft Position Sensor mounting bolt and use new sealing O-rings when installing the sensor, VANOS solenoid, and VANOS oil supply line. Confirm that the sensor harness is rerouted as it was before, and check for fault codes, clearing and resetting the ECM memory afterward.
