How to replace the rear crankshaft seal on 2008 BMW X3?

To replace the crankshaft rear main seal, remove the transmission, flywheel, and for manual cars, the clutch. Drain the engine oil and remove the seal carrier bolts. Remove the seal carrier, check the oil pan gasket for damage. Install the new seal carrier, replace the main seal carrier gasket, and apply sealant to the oil pan gasket sealing surfaces. Install the seal carrier bolts and torque them to specifications.
