Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Release the fasteners and remove the engine splash shield where installed. Remove the drivebelt(s). Prevent the crankshaft from turning using special tool# 11 8180 or 22 2 742 (or equivalent) that locks against the flywheel. Remove the six mounting bolts, and remove the harmonic balancer/pulley. Do not remove the crankshaft center bolt; if the center bolt is loosened or removed, the
Timing Chain and oil pump sprockets will lose contact with the crankshaft, which will allow the intake and exhaust camshafts to turn independently of the crankshaft and severe engine damage will occur. Install the balancer mounting bolts and tighten the bolts to the torque. Again, hold the pulley if necessary when tightening the bolts. Install the drivebelt(s). Where applicable, install the engine splash shield.
