How to remove and install rear brake calipers on BMW 328i?

Don't allow brake fluid to come into contact with the paint as it will damage the finish. Note: Always replace the calipers in pairs -never replace just one of them. Removal: Block the front wheels, then raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the relevant rear wheel. Clean the area around the brake hose fitting, then break loose the fitting from the caliper (but don't try to unscrew it yet - you'll twist the hose). Remove the brake pads. Unscrew the caliper from the end of the flexible hose, then plug the hose. Installation: Screw the caliper fully onto the flexible hose fitting. Install the brake pads. Securely tighten the brake line fitting. Remove the brake hose clamp and bleed the brake system. Make sure there are no leaks from the hose connections. Install the wheel, then lower the vehicle to the ground and tighten the wheel bolts to the specified torque. Check the hydraulic fluid level. Test the brakes carefully before returning the vehicle to normal service. Check and, if necessary, adjust the parking brake.

BMW 328i Brake Caliper

The system of the BMW 328i Brake Caliper provides control of the car easily. It consists of pumps that press the Brake Caliper lining against the spinning rotor. The Brake Caliper applied on many BMW 328i models is a floating style. There is a single inboard piston that pushes fluid against one of the pads, then the body slides so both pads squeeze the disc. Cars in the past and performance packages sometimes use a fixed Brake Caliper with multiple opposed pistons that provide a firmer bite but add weight and cost. The cast iron shell, steel or phenolic pistons, rubber seals, bleeder screws, and hose port that directs pressure from the master cylinder are the same for both versions. When a driver presses the pedal in a BMW 328i, hydraulic fluid, which is non-compressible, forces each Brake Caliper piston outwards until the pads grip, converting motion into heat that air flow quickly carries away. If the Brake Caliper seizes due to corrosion, a BMW 328i will pull to one side and suffer from uneven pad wear. A spongy feeling also indicates that the 328i should be inspected quickly.
