- Q:How to remove the oil pump and Timing Chain in 3.0L six cylinder engine on BMW 330i?Posted by Stanley G.A:Start by taking off the Oil Pan and oil pick-up tube to remove the oil pump. Then the bolt holding the sprocket on the oil pump shaft should be removed and pull off the sprocket and chain from the shaft. Other bolts that are used for retaining the oil pump in place as well as pump module mounting bolts ought to be removed. While fitting a new one, replace all aluminum bolts while tightening all fasteners with their respective torque values. First, remove drive belt and drive belt tensioner before you can take off an oil pump chain. A vacuum sealing cover on a vacuum pump may be removed using a screwdriver or special tools. Now turn crankshaft pulley bolt till holes in vacuum pump drive sprocket line up with securing bolts of a pump itself. To keep it in place, secure it with a retaining bolt so that it does not fall down when removing it from its position. Push this tensioner towards right hand side and then lock into position.
