- Q: How to remove and reinstall the power steering pump in turbo engine on BMW 335i?A:Remove the left charge air duct and drain the power steering fluid reservoir using a clean syringe, ensuring not to reuse the fluid. Raise the front of the car and remove the splash shield from under the engine. Detach the left inner tie rod from the steering rack and remove the accessory belt from the power steering pump, marking the direction of rotation if the belt is to be reused. While working at the front of the pump, remove the fasteners and take off the power steering pulley. From underneath the vehicle, mark the orientation of the pressure line for reinstallation, then release the banjo bolt and detach the pressure line from the pump, being prepared to catch any dripping fluid. Ensure sealing rings are replaced during reinstallation and plug openings in the pump and hose ends to prevent contamination. From the bottom of the vehicle, remove the fastener from the rear of the power steering pump, then remove the remaining fasteners. Move the power steering pump towards the front to access the supply hose, marking its orientation for reinstallation, and remove the clamp to detach the supply hose, again being prepared for dripping fluid. Remove the pump from below and plug openings in the pump and hoses to prevent contamination. When installing the pump, replace aluminum fasteners with new ones, tighten the pump fasteners finger tight, and follow the specified tightening sequence: first, tighten side bracket fasteners to 2 Nm (18 in-lb), then the front bracket fastener to 2 Nm (18 in-lb), followed by tightening the front bracket fastener to the final specification. Release the side bracket fasteners to ensure the bracket is flush with the engine block, then tighten the side bracket fasteners to the final specification. The remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring fluid hoses align with marks, sealing rings on the high-pressure fluid hose are replaced, the lettering on the power steering pump pulley faces outward, the clamp on the fluid supply hose is replaced, the hydraulic system is filled and bled, and leaks are checked.
