Center the steering wheel, ensuring the front wheels are pointed straight ahead, and disconnect the negative (-) cable from the battery. Prior to disconnecting the battery, be aware of the cautions regarding battery disconnection. Extend the steering wheel as far back and as low as possible, then remove the driver airbag from the steering wheel. Next, remove the steering wheel center bolt, taking care to note that the SRS contact reel, which is integral with the
Steering Column switch block, must not have its position altered as it is locked when the steering wheel is removed. Check for proper alignment of the steering column marks before removing the steering wheel, as these are match marked at the factory. After removing the steering wheel, when installing it again, align the steering wheel and column match marks, ensure it aligns with the alignment pins on the steering column switch block, and install the steering column center bolt without over-torquing. Finally, carefully install the airbag.
