BMW 335i Washer Reservoir

BMW 335i Washer Reservoir is designed to store the cleaning fluid that the windshield washer pump sprays out in order to allow drivers to maintain clear vision without stopping. Across the production run, BMW installed its 335i sedans, coupes, and convertibles with a sturdy plastic Washer Reservoir tucked either behind the engine block or mounted close to the headlights, depending on engine bay layout. Both positions keep weight low and make it easy to route short hoses to the tiny spray nozzles, so that as soon as the steering column switch is tapped, the pump can rush fluid onto the glass. Whichever style your BMW 335i is, the Washer Reservoir has a connection to an electric pump that forces liquid through crack-resistant piping to the wiper zone, in conjunction with rubber-tipped blades driven by a motor and worm gear. If the pump hums but there is no spray, check for clogged nozzles or a fractured Washer Reservoir, as dried-out plastic can split and leak. Running the system empty creates stress on components, so keeping the BMW 335i Washer Reservoir filled will help prevent pump burnout and prolong clear sight in rain or road grime.

BMW 335i Washer Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q:
How to service the washer reservoir on the BMW 335i?
    Posted by Andrae W.
    A:
Remove the washer fluid reservoir by detaching the electrical connector from the washer fluid level switch, rotating the switch clockwise, and prying it out of the reservoir while being prepared to catch any dripping fluid. For the rear window washer pump, detach the electrical connector, cut or loosen the hose clamp, and detach the hose from the pump before rotating the pump clockwise and prying it out of the reservoir, again being ready to catch any fluid. For the windshield washer pump, detach the electrical connector, cut or loosen the hose clamp, and detach the hose from the pump, then rotate the pump clockwise and pry it out of the reservoir while catching any fluid. For the headlight washer pump, detach the electrical connector, separate the high-pressure fluid hose at the split connector, rotate the pump clockwise, and pry it out of the reservoir, prepared for any dripping fluid. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring to replace strainers on the washer pumps, coat the grommet at the base of the pump or sensor with an anti-friction agent, and use new hose clamps if necessary. After installation, check that fluid hoses are not kinked, fill the reservoir, and check for leaks.
