- Q: How to replace Radius Arm Bushings on BMW 428i?A:It is advisable to swap Radius Arm bushings in pairs as they can only be done so once. When the radius arm is installed, check the ball joint. If the ball joint does not pass inspection, replace the whole arm. First, lift the vehicle and take off the wheel. Make a punch mark in the specified area on the radius arm, if it is not already stamped; if the radius arm has been stamped, it must be replaced. Take out the arm and, by using a service press and suitable tools, press the bushing out of the radius arm. Clean the bore of the bushing and press in the new bushing such that the mark on the bushing aligns with the mark on the radius arm. Chamfer the trailing link side for installation. The difference between the bushing mark and the radius arm mark should not be more than ±5°. Use the appropriate tool to press on the outer steel sleeve of the new bushing only. Before installation, confirm that the bushing extends the same length from each side. Finally, tighten the radius arm bushing through-bolt to its final torque only with the car on the ground and the suspension normally loaded.
