How to replace the air filter box in the six cylinder engine on BMW X3?

To replace the air filter element, the fresh air intake tube should be unclipped at its both ends and latter should be removed. Start with the electrical connector of the mass air flow sensor which has to be disconnected, the hose clamp at the mass airflow sensor should be loosened and the intake duct pulled away from the Air Filter Box. Pull on the two rubber grommets set in the plastic support mounts to remove the Air Filter Box. Afterward, take off the intake duct from the throttle housing elbow through the loosening of the clamp, and then remove the elbow from the throttle housing. For installation, it is just the opposite of what was done above, while making certain the air cleaner box is in correct position on the rubber mount. After reinstallation one must delete all possible fault codes in the ECM memory.

BMW X3 Air Filter Box

The BMW X3 Air Filter Box prevents the engine from contaminants by sealing the air filter. Only pure air flows into the intake manifold. The compact housing draws in as much as 10,000 gallons of atmosphere per gallon of gasoline. Dust, sand, leaves, and other abrasive particles that would wear on pistons, rings, and cylinder walls are filtered out. The design of the molded channels compels the incoming flow to navigate through the filter element, effectively capturing debris and preventing it from entering the crankcase oil or overwhelming the oil filter.
