The centra console holds the airbag control module and rear heater ducts. Similarly, the center console can be removed to expose the heater core and shift selector mechanism. Start by taking away the right lower dashboard trim and left lower dashboard trim above pedal cluster. After that, remove the shifter bezel and shift knob. Then, proceed to remove hazard warning switch and central locking switches as well as switching center. Use a plastic tool equivalent to BMW special tool 00 9 340 to pry out of center console storage bin. Loosen the mounting screws for rear fresh air grill at its rear area then carefully pull it out, unclipping from upper and lower clips holding it in position. Turn over fresh air grill and disconnect electrical connectors, set grill aside. Remove carpeted panels on either side of center console behind front seats. Be careful not to break front clip next to seat while doing this operation. Remove lower mounting screws on right and left in back of console. Pull carpeted panel forward; disengage from clips by removing left & right screw that mounts left & right side trims on console opposite of driver's seat (front). The mounting screw in hazard an central locking switch cavity must be removed next. On each side of the console just ahead of the front seats, take off left & right mounting screws; disconnect electrical connectors there too.Pull up parking brake handle boot/raise this part until its free from parking brake handle itself.Pick up nudge with care checking lines or harnesses do not catch ducts during removal.Lift out carefully inspecting case lest any lines, ducts or harnesses get caught.Insertion is just opposite of extraction.Take precautions not ruin plastic clips or guides when getting it back.Update broken clips if need arises.See to it that air duct still hooks directly before tightening installation screws.
