How do you open the engine hood and remove the headlight assembly on BMW X5?

To open the engine hood, for models up to October 2003, carefully pry off the lower headlight assembly trim at the indicated arrows. For models from October 2003 onward, remove the front bumper cover. To access the left side headlight, remove the air filter housing, and for the right side headlight, take out the secondary air intake filter located behind the headlight assembly. Inside the engine compartment, behind the headlight, disconnect the harness connectors from the headlight assembly. For the Xenon low beam harness connector, consult the relevant section on replacing the Xenon headlight bulb. Next, remove the headlight mounting bolts, slide the headlight assembly forward, and take it out. During installation, reverse the removal steps, ensuring to set the front headlight cover flush with the engine hood and fender before tightening the top adjuster nuts, and adjust the headlight aim if necessary.
