How to remove and install the intermediate shaft on BMW Z3?

Disconnect the battery cable and remove the M20 engine's front cover. Take off the intermediate shaft sprocket and the guide plate by loosening two screws. Slide out the intermediate shaft, turning the crankshaft if needed. Check the gear on the shaft, replace if required. To reinstall, insert the shaft, install the guide plate, and replace the front cover.
