To remove and install the power steering pump, start by disconnecting the negative battery cable and releasing the pressure from the reservoir. Remove the power steering belt and place a drain pan under the reservoir and pump. Siphon the hydraulic fluid from the reservoir and disconnect and plug the hydraulic lines. Remove the bolts and loosen the nuts to turn the adjusting pinion, then remove the drive belt. Remove the bolts from the brackets holding the pump and remove the pump assembly. To install, follow the reverse order of removal and tighten the adjusting pinion if equipped. If the vehicle has a tandem pump, the removal and installation procedure is the same. After installation, bleed the power steering system by applying the parking brake and blocking the rear wheels. Locate the reservoir in the left front area of the engine compartment and fill it up to the upper level mark with the recommended fluid. Start the engine and check the fluid level, topping up as necessary. Turn the steering full lock left and right, rechecking the fluid level and topping up as necessary. Repeat this process at least two times in succession and reinstall the reservoir cap.
