2003 and later models with an M56 engine bring an all-new component to the mix, a fixed, non-serviceable carbon filter element bolted to the air filter housing. The air cleaner assembly is fixed at the left-hand side of the engine compartment immediately in front of the vehicle. First, let loose the three retaining clips - on the housing, and on the air filter housing cover regarding the MAF sensor. However, before doing so, one has to raise and unlock the air inlet duct and completely pull it off the housing by releasing some retaining clips mounted on it. Pull out the air filter and then wipe the insides of the where the air filter was inserted clean. Last, position the new filter, put back the casing and tighten all other retaining clips.
