In general, rear drive and xDrive procedures are different; these disparities are described in the text. First, lift the car and further, which the front wheel needs to be detached. The rest of the installation is the opposite of removal; make sure that the bolt head of the steering knuckle pinch bolt faces the direction of travel; replace self-locking fasteners with new ones; ensure that the steering knuckle hits the stop on the strut; and tighten bonded rubber fasteners to the final torque with the car on the ground and loaded, bouncing the suspension a few times before final tightening.

The steering knuckle or 'swivel bearing' is one of the two outboard attachment points for the suspension arms apart from acting as a wheel hub and carrier for the wheel bearing. The wheel bearings are factory sealed and therefore do not need to be serviced. Whereas in the rear drive models, the wheel bearing and hub assembly is just bolted to the steering knuckle, in the xDrive models, it is pressed onto the steering knuckle and requires the use of several special tools for removal. Well, it is different depending on the model, in xDrive models for an example, when you remove the wheel hub the bearing is destroyed and therefore, one needs to use the correct procedure for the model in question.
