Release mounting clips, fold down and remove the trim insert on the tailgate rear panel, open the rear window, pull the plastic trim at the top of the rear panel rearward to release the clips, and remove the mounting bolts at the top of the panel. Then, pry out the cover, remove the bolt on each side of the handle recess, pull the rear trim panel away from the tailgate to release the retaining clips, and disconnect the trunk compartment light. Finally, remove the mounting bolts and slide the latch from the tailgate while disconnecting the release cable and electrical connector.
