    Q:
How to remove and install a water pump on BMW Z4? Posted by Customer
    A:
Non-toxic coolant is available at most auto parts stores. Although the coolant is nontoxic, proper disposal is still required. A new sealing ring will be required on installation. To remove the water pump, first drain the cooling system. Then, remove the cooling fan. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts and remove the auxiliary drivebelt. Unscrew the retaining bolts/nuts and remove the pulley from the pump, noting which way around it is installed. Loosen and remove the pump retaining bolts/nuts and withdraw the pump. If the pump is a tight fit, screw two M6 bolts into the jacking holes on either side of the pump and use the bolts to draw the pump out of position. Recover the sealing ring from the rear of the pump. To install the new pump, install the new sealing ring to the rear of the pump and lubricate it with a smear of grease to ease installation. Place the pump in position and reinstall the retaining bolts/nuts. Tighten the bolts/nuts evenly and progressively to the torque, making sure the pump is drawn squarely into position. Reinstall the pulley to the pump, making sure it is the correct way around, and screw in its retaining bolts. Tighten the bolts to the torque. Reinstall the drivebelt then securely tighten the pulley bolts. Reinstall the cooling fan assembly. Finally, refill the cooling system.

    Q:
What are the important considerations when working with water pumps and the cooling system on BMW Z3? Posted by Customer
    A:
First of all, you should note that water pumps can fail due to low coolant levels. Operating the engine under these conditions can cause water pump failure. When repairing the cooling system, apply an anti-seizing compound to O-rings, seals, and fasteners. The replacement steps include disconnecting the battery, removing the fan, belt, and pulley, disconnecting hoses, and installing the water pump.

    Q:
How is the water pump removed and installed in the V8 engine on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
The engine coolant pump is located forward of the engine, located within the timing chain cover. The process should be initiated by the draining of the cooling system. After that, get rid of the cooling fan and fan shroud, and then the engine accessory belts, if reusing the belts, the direction of belt rotation has to be noted. Following that, disconnect MAF sensor electrical connection together with the vibration dampener and then uninstall the air intake duct together with the MAF sensor. Remove the coolant hoses on the thermostat housing and the cooling pump housing and turn off the connection of the thermostat and cooling system temperature sensor. Move on for the removal of the thermostat then the coolant pump pulley bolts to relinquish the pulley from the pump. Pull off the coolant pump fastenings; it is to be noted that there are bolts of different lengths used to attach this pump to the block. After loosening the bolts gently push/pull the coolant pump backward from the coolant pipes while being careful not to disturb the pipes from the connection to fittings at the back of the engine. For installation, simply reverse the removal procedures; remember to replace all sealing O-rings, and washers with new ones, when installing the pump, be reminded to treat the O-rings with the water based lubricant only during the adjustment, ensure the pump alignment dowels lies well on the timing case, and remember to fill the system with coolant and bleed it.

    Q:
Where is the water pump located and how to remove and install it in the six cylinder engine on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
The engine coolant pump side is mounted at the front of the engine and within the timing chain cover. The first step is normally to remove water and air from the cooling system. Second, there is an air intake duct, cooling fan and a fan shroud: internal that should be taken off. Remove the engine drive belt as follows By turning the hex of the lever tensioner in a clockwise position while facing the engine pull the belt off the coolant pump pulley. If the belt is to be reused, then it should be tagged to show the line of rotation. Go ahead and unbolt and pull of the Coolant Pump Pulley off the pump. Then, you unbolt the four pump mounting nuts, though it is important to know that the coolant pump will be fastened by only these nuts on studs. To discharge the pump, screw in two M6 screws into the tapped bores and equally tighten until the pump is loose from the timing chain cover while the thermostat and hoses should have been removed for ease. For removal, its reverse applies with addition that the sealing O-ring and gaskets must be replaced before being slid back into position, whilst the O-ring must be lubricated during the process.
