- Q: How does an externally mounted water pump enhance engine efficiency and longevity on BMW 335i?A:An externally mounted electric coolant pump is installed on the front right side of the engine block, to enhance the heating and cooling of the engine and this pump can work even when the engine is off. In cold start conditions, a low flow rate is provided to fast track the warm up whilst a high flow rate including with the engine not running is used for fast cool down allowing improved efficiency and durability of the engine. The basic operation and speed of the pump is regulated by the DME which employs the engine load, operation range, and several temperature sensors for regulating it. Furthermore, the electric coolant pump can diagnose and memorize some conditions of the error, including the problem like the impeller speed deviance, stiff operation or blockage by foreign matters, too high or too low ratio of the coolant/water, and the appearance of the air in the cooling system.
- Q: How does the electric coolant water pump operate on BMW X3?A:The M54 engine incorporates a normally geared centrifugal water pump located at the front that circulates the coolant through the system once when the engine is under operation. The first step is normally to remove water and air from the cooling system. Second, there is an air intake duct, cooling fan and a fan shroud: internal that should be taken off. Remove the engine drive belt as follows By turning the hex of the lever tensioner in a clockwise position while facing the engine pull the belt off the coolant pump pulley. If the belt is to be reused, then it should be tagged to show the line of rotation. Go ahead and unbolt and pull of the Coolant Pump Pulley off the pump.
