- A:The back-up light circuit is controlled by a plunger-type switch screwed into the right-hand side of the transmission case. If a fault develops in the circuit, first check that the circuit fuse has not blown. To test the switch, disconnect the wiring connector and use a multimeter or a battery-and-bulb test circuit to check for continuity between the switch terminals only when reverse gear is selected. If this is not the case, and there are no obvious breaks or other damage to the wires, the switch is faulty and must be replaced. To remove the switch, raise the vehicle and securely support it on jackstands. Disconnect the wiring connector, then unscrew the switch from the transmission casing. To install the switch, screw it back into position in the transmission housing and securely tighten it. Reconnect the wiring connector and test the operation of the circuit.
