    Q:
How to drain the fuel tank and replace the Fuel Level Sensor and fuel pump on the BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
The fuel tank should be emptied and the negative cable of the battery should be removed while one should ensure to read the battery disconnection cautionary notes. Pull out the fuel pump access cover then, disconnect the electrical connectors and effuler the fuel lines. Employing special tool 16 1 020 lift the fuel pump service cap and free the tube insert; replace the O-ring ring and raise it, remove the insert, and discard it. In the fuel tank, remove the black fuel return lines, then unlock and disconnect the fuel line with your fingers, and finally, pulling up gently, take out the fuel pump and the Fuel Level Sensor from the tank, if needed, you must rotate it 90° counter clockwise extremely carefully not to fold the fuel sender arm. As if using the water injection method, ensure that you are ready to collect any fuel that is likely to drop on the ground. The Fuel Level Sensor is removed in the direction of the arrow unlocking the tabs, and disconnecting the electric connector pulling the wire off the holders. The removal and installation of the Fuel Level Sensor is always as follows; Inside the fuel tank, gently fix the fuel pump and the Fuel Level Sensor and you fasten the black fuel return lines, lock the fuel line with your fingers. Join electrical connectors, and secure the wires with a cable tie, and clean the areas for sealing of the O-ring then add a new one. The service cap must be fitted with the locating rods while maintaining that it is not rigid by force. Open the fuel tank vent and ensure the service cap lug fits into the fuel tank slot, screw the service cap by hand as much as you can. After that, by means of special tool 16 1 020, fasten the service cap clockwise until it is aligned with the marking which indicates the indicated position on the fuel tank. Last but not least, secure the electrical connectors along with fuel line and at last, fix the fuel tank access cover. It is also important not to start the engine with less than 5 liters (1.5 US gallons) of fuel in the tank because this will cause the fuel pump to burn out.
