    What steps should be followed to renew the oil seal for the 1974 BMW 2002? Posted by Customer

    1. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the rear of the transmission. 2. Disconnect the front of the propeller shaft from the transmission coupling flange. 3. Disconnect the propeller shaft centre bearing support from the body frame. 4. Tie the propeller shaft to one side. 5. From the coupling flange, pull the flexible buffer and prise out the lockplate. 6. Holding the coupling flange quite still, unscrew and remove the nut and then pull off the flange. 7. The rear oil seal is now exposed and it may be extracted by levering or using a two-legged puller, applying pressure from the centre screw to the end of the transmission output shaft. 8. Drive in the new seal using a piece of tubing as a drift. 9. The outer face of the seal must lie 0.118 in (3.0 mm) below the end face of the extension housing.
