    Q:
How to disconnect and reinstall the steering angle sensor on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable and cover the battery terminal to prevent accidental contact. Prior to disconnecting the battery, ensure to read the battery disconnection cautions. Remove the left lower dashboard trim and the left dashboard panel. Next, remove the steering shaft clamping bolt and disconnect the steering angle sensor wiring harness connector. Remove the snap ring from the steering shaft and slide the steering angle sensor off the shaft. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to align the locking pin with the mount hole in the sensor. Finally, perform a steering angle offset test using a BMW service tool such as DISplus, MoDiC, GT1, or an equivalent tool. Once calibrated, the sensor will send a confirmation ID code to the DSC control module.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall the steering column and steering angle sensor on BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the trim above the pedal assembly and disconnect the lower steering column from the upper steering column. Exercise caution, as separating the lower steering column from the upper allows the steering wheel to spin freely; lock the steering wheel in position to prevent damage to the MRS contact reel. Remove the nut and slide the bolt out of the steering column and bushings, then pull the steering column down toward the floor. Remove the crash sleeve with the crash disc from the upper steering column spindle and slide the steering spindle into the steering column. Pinch the tabs on the steering angle sensor and slide it down the steering column spindle to remove it. Trace the electrical wire for the steering angle sensor back to the plug and disconnect it. For installation, reverse the removal process while ensuring the steering system has freedom of movement throughout the entire adjustment range, replace the crash sleeve, and code the steering angle sensor using a BMW diagnostic scan tool before performing steering calibration.
