2007 BMW 335i Drive Belt Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace Drive Belt in N55 six cylinder engine on 2007 BMW 335i?
A: To get to the upper part of the radiator, first, you'll need to take out the screws of the air intake duct, and by pulling the duct backward, you will be able to free it from the radiator support crossbar, as for the bellows, they must be disconnected from the air filter housing. After that, unbolt the electric engine cooling fan and the fan cowl, and then thereafter unbolt the engine splash shield. If the old drive belt is to be refitted mark the direction of its rotation so that it would be easy to put it in its proper position. Turn the belt tensioner counter clockwise until the bore hole is put in line with the hole found on the crank case to disengage the belt tension. Plug an awl shaped tool in the bore hole to hold tensioner in position and then free the drive belt from the pulleys and withdraw it. If replacing the belt tensioner, first remove the special tool then the bolt and the tensioner is removed. New tensioner must be installed with a new bolt by rotating the new belt tensioner clockwise and lock in released position by using special tool, Torx socket. Last but not the least, attach the belt with the help of the diagram provided, if you are replacing the used belt, make sure to put the belt in the direction that was marked before.
