2010 BMW 335i Fuel Injector Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What are the steps and precautions for replacing the fuel injector, performing injector quantity compensation, and ensuring proper installation and leak testing on the N55 six cylinder engine in the 2010 BMW 335i?
A: Always replace the uncoupling element and the PTFE sealing ring always remove the PTFE protective cap no more than 10 minutes before assembling since it swells when removed. A so-called injector quantity compensation has to be made with a BMW scan tool each time an injector is new, using the adjustment value which is stamped into the injector housing and has to be recorded before installation. Snap the injectors into position in the cylinder head and, using the BMW special tool 13 0 270 on the injector slot, screw in the screws by hand until the threaded pull-out piece is threaded in about a few threads before the threaded sleeves can be connected to the injectors. On the threaded pull-out piece, the thread used is left-hand and on the threaded sleeves, they must be tightened on the injectors before the screws are tightened. Insert the 2 Nm torque wrench and the BMW special tool 00 9 170 over the square head of the special tool 13 0 270; turning the wrench in a counter clockwise direction, tighten to norms indicated until the pin does not come to contact with the cylinder head cover. Screw the hold-down bracket on the injectors loosely so that you can still move the injectors; put the plate in place, followed by the support bridge and the clamping plate, also with screws but left loose for now. Tighten the high-pressure line nut using fingers only, put the rubber damper and if reusing the high-pressure line, apply gear oil on the nut threads, it is advisable to know that the high-pressure line can only be tightened up to 10 times. If neither of the nuts on line can be inserted by hand, then loosen the injector slightly and also dispose off the copper seals on the high pressure lines which were fitted at the time of manufacture. Make the required tension on the hold-down screw that passes through the plate, and then uniformly make tensions on the screws of the plate and install the screw plug in the said plate and fasten the ground wire and install electrical connectors. Last, ensure to apply the torque of 15 Nm on the injector lines in the right sequence, inspect the fuel system for leaks, replace other components if removed, and do the injector quantity compensation, check for fault codes, but at the same time, clear the memory of the ECM.
