2011 BMW 335i Fuel Injector Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: What are the instructions for removing and installing fuel injectors in the N55 six cylinder engine on 2011 BMW 335i?
A: There are two types of injectors being fitted to the N55 engines with removal and refitting being different for each of them. The first installed kind is a bottom hold-down bracket while a top kind is used on later models, so this must be ascertained first. Upon replacement of an injector, injector quantity compensation needs to be done and this can only be done with a BMW factory scan tool or an M0166 equivalent. First remove the battery negative cable in the cargo compartment as per the battery disconnection cautions which you should first read. Pull the cabin microfilter housing, the ignition coil cover and the ignition coil that corresponds to the fuel injector serviced. In this process, it's good to be specific with hygiene because a fuel/ or oil drop drags the electrical resistance down and eventually ignites the ignition coils. Next, unscrew the fuel line that connects to the particular fuel injector and unbolt it from the rubber cushion; it is very important to keep a clean environment in order not to introduce contaminants into the system that the car's ECUs may pick up. Protect all fuel system ports with fuel caps and change pressure fuel lines if they have been fastened ten times. Screw on the cap and plug the fuel rail connections, then undo the fastener and ground wire, unlock and disconnect the electrical connector from the injector and unscrew the plug. When more than one injectors have been removed, make sure to label them so that when it is time to replace them you know which goes where. Bolts, clamping plate, and the support bridge are also to be removed and the note of the clamping plate is also to be made, this is a one-time-use item. After detaching the bottom hold down bracket pull the injectors out from the cylinder head. For a stuck injector put on the injector slot a special tool, the screws must be installed by hand; a left hand threaded piece must be turned in to tighten threaded sleeves over the injectors. Loosen the injector with the help of the special tool and torque wrench at 5 Nm, and in the process avoid a retaining pin touching the cylinder head cover. If the torque reaches or goes beyond 5 Nm, the injector will be more specifically destroyed and will have to be replaced. One additional step back, fit sealing caps on the fuel line connection and on the injector tip and these parts can be ordered from the authorized BMW parts department.
