How to remove and reinstall an alternator in turbo engine on BMW 335i?

Switch ignition OFF. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable and cover battery terminal to keep cable from accidentally contacting terminal. Prior to disconnecting the battery, read the battery disconnection cautions. Raise vehicle and support safely. Remove splash shield underneath engine compartment. Remove electric fan cowl and fan. Remove engine accessory belt. Mark direction of rotation on belt before removing. Remove intake air filter housing. Remove left side charge air duct. Remove A/C compressor from mounting bracket and hang aside. Do not detach A/C refrigerant lines. Loosen /VC compressor bracket bolts a few turns. Do not remove bracket. Working at rear of alternator, detach harness connector. Pull off plastic protective cover and remove nut to detach alternator terminal 30 (B+) cable. Working at left side of engine, remove alternator mounting bolts. Lift out alternator with bracket. With alternator on work bench, remove idler pulley fastener plastic cover, if applicable. Remove idler pulley and transfer to new alternator. Reinstall alternator and reattach electrical harnesses. Tighten A/C compressor bracket bolts, then reinstall compressor. Reassemble front of engine. Remember to reinstall accessory belt using previously made direction-of rotation marks. Make sure accessory belt grooves engage pulleys correctly. BMW 335i Alternator

BMW 335i Alternator acts as the car's onboard generator and charger, keeping the battery alive and every electrical feature lit while the engine runs. Inside its two piece cast aluminum shell, the BMW Alternator uses a belt driven pulley to whirl a shaft mounted rotor within stationary stator windings at thousands of revolutions per minute, generating electricity through a moving magnetic field. Diodes in the Alternator rectifier convert the produced AC into stable DC that the 335i draws to replenish the battery and power lights, ignition, climate control, and entertainment systems. A front mounted cooling fan, plus bearings at both ends, ensure smooth rotation, while the rear housing carries brushes, heat sinks, and a voltage regulator controlling field current so the BMW electrical network avoids over or under charging even in stop and go traffic. On early 335i models the regulator sat externally or internally on the Alternator itself, but newer editions let the Powertrain Control Module command that function for finer load matching.
