Replace bushings in pairs by raising the car and removing the rear wheel, then support the rear wheel bearing carrier with a suitable jack. Remove the coil spring and the ride height sensor if equipped, followed by the swing arm. Using BMW special tools 33 4 462, 33 4 464, 33 4 463, 33 4 466, and 33 4 465, remove the bushing from the subframe. Compress the new bushing with tools 33 4 455, 33 4 456, 33 4 452, and 33 4 451, ensuring to align the rubber bushing slot with the center line mark during installation. Press the mount in as far as possible with tools 33 4 461, 33 4 463, 33 4 466, and 33 4 465, then remove tool 33 4 450 and draw in the rubber mount completely. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal, using new self-locking nuts and tightening fasteners to final torque only after lowering the vehicle and allowing the suspension to settle. Have the car professionally aligned upon completion of the job.
