Raise the front of the car and remove the road wheel, followed by the splash shield underneath the engine. Make a length reference mark on the
Tie Rod before removing the outer tie rod end. Cut the rack and pinion boot band clamps and slide off the boot, inspecting it for any signs of damage and replacing it if necessary. A new rack and pinion boot kit includes new band clamps. Grease the tie rod taper to ensure the small end of the rack and pinion boot slides on the tie rod when tightened, preventing the boot from twisting. Slide the new boot into position and replace the band clamps, then reinstall the tie rod end using the previously made reference marks. After reassembling the steering, have the car professionally aligned and carry out the steering angle sensor adjustment using a BMW scan tool.
