Several optional steering wheels are available for F3x vehicles and removal is similar for all; with the front wheels pointed straight ahead, disconnect the negative (-) battery cable after following battery disconnection cautions, extend the steering wheel away from the dash as far back and low as possible, remove the driver airbag from the steering wheel, remove the steering wheel center bolt, and note that the SRS contact reel (clock spring/airbag contact ring/slip ring) is integral with the
Steering Column switch block, is a wound coil that maintains continuous electrical contact for the airbag and steering wheel electrical components, and is locked when the steering wheel is removed so its position must not be altered; the SRS contact reel is in the zero position when its mark is visible; check for proper alignment of steering column marks before removing the steering wheel, disconnect all electrical connectors (the steering column and steering wheel are match marked at the factory), remove the steering wheel, and when installing align the steering wheel and column match marks and the steering wheel to the alignment pins on the steering column switch block, reconnect and route all electrical connections correctly, install the steering column center bolt without over-torquing, and carefully install the airbag.
