The A/C expansion valve is located in the climate control housing, on the right side behind the glove compartment and the right side center console cover. Following the manufacturer's instructions, connect an approved refrigerant recovery and recycling or recharging unit to the A/C system and discharge the system. Remove the plenum chamber bulkhead. In the engine compartment at the rear bulkhead on the right side, remove the refrigerant line bolts and separate the lines, plugging them and the ports immediately to prevent contamination. Inside the passenger cabin, turn the center dashboard vent control knob downward to the end position. Remove the right lower dashboard trim, glove compartment, right footwell air duct, and the carpeted panel on the right side of the center console. At the right climate control housing cover, unclip the electrical harness brackets, remove the cover retaining screws, and take off the cover. Remove the sound insulation from the expansion valve housing. At the expansion valve, remove the screws and plates, pull the refrigerant lines apart, and take out the expansion valve. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to replace the sealing O-rings when reconnecting the refrigerant lines. If installing a new expansion valve or if the valve has been off the vehicle for more than 24 hours, replace the receiver-drier unit. Recharge the A/C system according to the equipment manufacturer's instructions, noting the refrigerant capacity.
