The 6-cylinder engine oil pump is mounted at the bottom of the engine block surrounded by the cradle and is geared by means of a chain and sprocket system taking its drive from the crankshaft. The front suspension requires to be dropped for the oil pump to be removed, and the
Oil Pan to be taken out. First, take out the oil pump sprocket mounting nut, which will be turn in an anti clockwise direction on the block of the engine. Raise the sprocket away from the pump with the drive chain and remove the oil pump screws that are fixed on the engine casing. Subsequently, the oil pump pick-up tube bolts have to be unscrewed accompanied by the pick-up tube and followed by the pump removal. Any spacers that exist between the pump and the engine block should also be documented in order to be put into a different category. Rotate the oil pump shaft so as to check on the teeth of the gears, replace the pump if the gears do not rotate as required. Check also the oil pressure relief valve as it may also be affected at times. During installation reverse the process adopted while undertaking deregistration whereby the pump locating dowels should not be damaged and should be properly located. Changing the sealing O-rings of the oil pick-up and return tubes and rotating the sprocket splines to fit the oil pump shaft splines have to be done before fastening the sprocket nut which should be tightened with anticlockwise turn. At last add oil to the engine, start the engine and observe for any signs of oil leakage.
