BMW Z3 Wheel Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to address loose wheels or wheel bearings on BMW Z3?
    A:
For the front wheels which can be either loose or spinning smoothly, all-wheel and four-wheel drive car models need lug nuts and axle nuts s torqued to the right level and checked for looseness while worn or damaged wheel bearings are required to be replaced. Same with FWD cars; the torque and recheck of the joint is done as well as checking the wheel bearing and adjusting it if necessary; if the bearing stays loose, it is replaced. In the case of rear-wheel drive vehicles, it is recommended that the bearing should be pre-loaded if it is out of specification, and the lug nuts should be torqued also; worn or damaged bearings should be replaced. Again for all-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles that present with a problem regarding the rear wheels or wheel bearings, the lug nuts and axle nuts must also be tightened then checked for looseness, and the worn or damaged wheel bearings should also be replaced. If the wheel bearing of an FWD vehicle is worn or out of specification in any way, it should be corrected to achieve the specification, this should then be followed by torqueing of the lugs after which the wheel bearing should be replaced if worn or damaged. In case of routine inspection of RWD vehicles, lug nuts should be tightened to the recommended torque level and examined for looseness; used or damaged wheel bearings require replacement.
