BMW Z4 Oil Pressure Switch

The BMW Z4 Oil Pressure Switch reacts to falling or rising lubrication pressure. It warns the driver about a condition that may damage the engine's critical moving parts. Housed within the block, the Oil Pressure Switch detects the flow of oil and activates an internal diaphragm-and-spring contact that either turns on or off the dash warning lamp and transmits likewise to the Powertrain Control Module. The fundamental design of every generation of the BMW Z4 is more or less the same, although there are two types of styles. The early cars applied a simple single-terminal Oil Pressure Switch that only lights up the icon on the dashboard. The later facelift received a two-pin Oil Pressure Switch that would also send a data stream to the computer for limp-home safeguards. Nevertheless, both will light the lamp the moment pressure goes out of the calibrated range. The switch is compact, dependable, and straightforward to change, and the fact that it is specifically tuned to the BMW Z4 engine means that if it were to fail, the car would default to a reduced-power mode that would prevent damage. Therefore, the Oil Pressure Switch is worthwhile maintenance.
