To start removing the shock absorber, block the front wheels and raise the rear of the vehicle using jackstands. Removing the rear wheel can provide better access. On E-series chassis models, remove the luggage compartment side trim panel. Position a floor jack underneath the hub carrier and raise it to support the weight of the carrier.

The steering and suspension check includes inspecting tires for irregular wear patterns and proper inflation, checking the universal joint and steering gear housing for leakage, examining tie-rod ends and all suspension and steering components for damage or wear, testing the movement of the steering components while an assistant turns the steering wheel, checking balljoints for play and inspecting their boots for damage, and inspecting the suspension arm bushings at the rear of the vehicle for deterioration.

To access the front suspension components, start by blocking the rear wheels, applying the parking brake, and raising the front of the vehicle. Support it securely on jackstands and then remove the appropriate front wheel. Additionally, remove the fasteners securing the engine under-shield and take off the brake disc.

The strut dust boot, rubber stop, and spring pads should be checked and replaced as necessary.

The first step is to work in the luggage compartment, remove the wheel arch trim, and raise the car to take off the rear wheel.

Support the steering knuckle with a suitable jack and remove the front strut pinch bolt.
