    How to read out the fault memory of the DME control unit and remove the Variable Timing Solenoid actuators from the valve cover for N20 and N26 engines on BMW 428i? Posted by Customer

    Read out the fault memory of the DME control unit by switching off the ignition, then removing the engine acoustic cover and the intake air filter housing. Unclip the wiring harnesses from in front of the solenoids at the retaining clips. To remove the Variable Timing Solenoids, disconnect the connectors and remove the fasteners, then pull the Variable Timing Solenoids from the valve cover. If both Variable Timing Solenoids are being removed, mark the connectors for re-installation. Installation is the reverse of the removal process.
