Take off the drive flange that is damaged and must be replaced while removing it the wheel bearing is also dismantled. Force the wheel bearing inner race off the wheel hub shaft. To do this use needle nose pliers and pull out the snap ring for the wheel bearing carrier. Remove the wheel bearing from the carrier using special tools: 33 4 041, 33 4 042, 33 4 031, 33 4 048 and 33 4 043; the bearing cannot be reused. In case of 85 mm outside diameter bearings, the following BMW special tools should be used: 33 3 261, 33 3 263, 33 3 262, and 33 2 261 while the black seal should face the centre of the vehicle. As with the old wheel bearing, the same special tools must now be used to pull the new wheel bearing into the carrier. The removal process is the opposite of the installation and it is required that a new collar nut only at the outboard end of the drive axle be used, the nut restaked after tightening it and the parking brake set when through with the process.
