How to remove and install non-turbo engine knock sensors on BMW 335i?

Non-turbo engine knock sensors are under the intake manifold on the left side of the cylinder head. First, disconnect the negative(-) battery cable and cover the battery terminal to prevent the cable from accidentally contacting the terminal. Be sure to read the battery disconnection cautions before proceeding. With the engine fully cooled, remove the intake manifold. Next, disconnect the knock sensor electrical harness connector. Remove the knock sensor mounting bolts on the side of the cylinder block and then remove the sensors. It's important to note the installed angle of the knock sensor on the block before removing it. Reinstall the sensor in the same position and use a torque wrench when tightening the sensor mounting bolt. Clean the knock sensor contact surface on the engine block and sensor before installing the knock sensor. Be careful not to overtighten the knock sensors. Installation is the reverse of removal. Remember to replace the knock sensor mounting bolt, ensure the sensor harness is routed as before, and check and clear fault codes from the ECM memory.

The knock sensors for the 6-cylinder engines are mounted beneath the intake manifold gasket, on the left bank of the cylinder head. Before eradicating the battery it is worthwhile to know the precautions associated with battery removal. Upon complete cooling of the engine, one should take out the intake manifold. Secondly, unscrew the knock sensor electrical harness connector on the lateral side of the engine. Lose the knock sensor mounting bolts at the side of the cylinder block, and pull out the sensors.
