    Q:
How to disconnect and remove the air bag sensor, airbags, airbag control units, and impact sensors on BMW 325i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Wait for two minutes before you can disconnect the negative battery cable. Disconnecting airbag electrical connectors for driver's side either by using a T25 Tone screwdriver that is inserted through the hole in the front-side of the steering wheel or by inserting a T20 Tone screwdriver through the hole in the base of the steering wheel. Don't forget to do all this again on the other side. In both cases, while you are handling an airbag module, make sure that it is not pointed towards your body when opening and never put it on any surface with its opening facing downwards. Push on and then connect back electrical connectors and insert airbag until locked. For passenger's side air bag remove glove box, pry up locking catch and unplug airbag electrical connector(s). Take off nuts which fixate retaining mechanism and remove air bag from vehicle part. The installation takes place as described above but backwards than how removal was done; control unit arrow should be pointed towards front of a car. To extract impact sensors, take out suitable trim panels along with insulation materials. When these devices are getting removed from automobile just unscrew bolts and disconnect them via electric block respectively. Fasten all screws tightly according to prescribed torque rate when you tighten their bolts up after completing each step of work described above.

    Q:
What is the function and operation of the occupant detection sensor on the passenger seat of the BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
The occupant detection sensor is referred to as the occupant classifier (OC-3 mat) that is located in the seat area of the passenger seat and is made of conductors equipped with pressure-dependent resistor elements connected to an analyser. Such elements are designed to permit individual selection wherein an application of mechanical load to the SEN element reduces the electrical load and vice versa. The occupancy and local weight concentrations of the seat surface are determined by laying the signals captured from the various parts of the mat on a map. For the most part, the OC-3 mat is tasked with sensing the location of a person or object on the front passenger seat and deciding whether or not the passenger side airbags need to be disabled. Based on the weight pattern, it can detect a child seat that conforms to the NHTSA FMVSS 208 standard and causes the disabling of the passenger airbags if such a seat is detected. Further, the mat is able to distinguish between the child - one-year-old in the child seat and the light person by calculating the distances between the pressure, applying areas and pressure concentrations. Through K-CAN, OC-3 mat analyzer sends signals to MRS control module to turn off the front passenger side airbags if the detected seat is empty or if a child seat for a child aged up to one year is installed, with the status lamp informing the occupants that the airbags have been disabled.

    Q:
How to replace the occupant detection sensor on the front passenger seat of a BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Vehicles equipped with an occupant detection sensor in the seat bottom utilize this device as part of a two-stage deployment airbag system. The 3 Series models feature an OC3 mat integrated into the seat cushion, which is replaced as a unit. To access the occupant detection sensor, first disable the detection mat from the restraint control module using a BMW factory scan tool or equivalent. Next, remove the passenger seat, followed by the seat control switches. Detach the fastener and seat cover clip panel, then remove the trim panel by prying the clip out of the seat cover on the right side. Unhook the seat bottom upholstery at the rear and pull it away from the seat frame, with assistance pushing down on the seat bottom cushion to facilitate this process. Completely pull out the cover welt from the seat frame and move the seat cover with cushion in the indicated direction, carefully feeding the bracing cloth through the gap in the backrest. Disconnect the harness connector for the occupant detection sensor and seat heating if applicable, then remove the seat cushion while detaching wire retainers. Installation follows the reverse order of removal, ensuring to enable the detection mat with the BMW factory scan tool or equivalent afterward.
