- A:Start by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Then, remove the oil pan to expose the oil pump. Next, remove the sprocket mounting nut and pull the sprocket from the shaft. Finally, remove the oil pump mounting bolts and lower the oil pump. To install, tighten the pump-to-block bolts and support bolts, place the pump drive chain around the drive sprocket, and slide it over the pump shaft.
