The electrically-heated thermostat is an integral part of the thermostat housing, with its operation monitored by the engine control module (ECM). If a faulty thermostat is suspected, an appropriate scan tool should be used to interrogate the ECM for stored fault codes. Begin by draining the radiator and engine block. Next, disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor electrical harness connector and remove the air intake duct along with the MAF sensor. The mechanical cooling fan and fan shroud should then be removed. After that, disconnect the electrical harness connector from the thermostat housing and remove the coolant hose from it. Remove the thermostat housing fasteners and take out the thermostat housing. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that sealing faces are kept clean and free of oil, using a new sealing gasket, and filling the system with coolant while bleeding it.
